English dissertation ideas: what to avoid in your paper

The process of deciding what your dissertation will cover is rather exhausting. Choosing the right topic is half the battle – and the process gets much easier when you have a clear direction for your studies. It also gets more attainable as you can check more tasks off of your completion list.

While there are many, many things that must be included in your dissertation, all depending on the specific requirements of your school and program, there are equally as many things to avoid as you move forward in the process. Though many focus only on the “to do” list for their projects, the “don’t do” list is just as important.

What to Avoid in Your English Dissertation

When choosing dissertation ideas and topics, it is critical that you weigh all kinds of options. When doing so, consider some important things that you don’t want included in your dissertation. Regardless of your specific program of study, these apply:

  • Inflammatory statements: Though it may seem like a good idea to make a statement that will be unlike any other, it isn’t a good one to make inflammatory or accusatory statements in your work. Not only are they hard to back up, but they most often shoot your credibility down to extremely low levels. That is not good for many reasons.
  • Unsourced materials: If your argument can’t be sourced properly, or you have to use unsourced items, it isn’t worth using. You must be able to properly source all of your documentation, arguments, and sources.
  • Arguments that can’t be backed up: If you make an argument that you can’t back up with facts and information that has already been published, it is highly likely that your readers and professors will find it is not a credible topic.
  • Overly used topics: Though a wealth of information on a topic can seem helpful, there are some topics that have been used so often that the market is saturated with information about them. This can actually work against you and make the research portion much more difficult. You don’t want to waste time narrowing so many sources for what you need.
  • Obscure topics: Obscure topics should also be avoided as they are often very hard to find information. Though it might be a credible argument, if it hasn’t been studied by professionals in the field enough to help supplement your information, it is useless as a dissertation subject.

Helped me get an A+

I was about to use a custom editing service but decided to look for something free before I proceed with the payment. To my greatest surprise (and perhaps luck), I stumbled upon Editorial Veramar websites. I had to write a literature review for my composition class and had the paper ready but wasn't sure I would get an A, since my writing is far from perfect. I found a great manual for editing research papers and used the proposed step-by-step instructions. Guess what? I've received an A+!
